Last week I featured a new song idea, “department of homeland security”, on the blog. In a moment of behind the curtain madness, I thought I’d show you how I’m getting on with it. The original idea sounded like this…

so what I’ll often do is play around with this a little bit so see whether it works better at a different tempo or time sig - so in this case it was sounding a bit too pretty so I sped it up a bit and made it a bit dirtier. Nothing too adventurous.

While I was messing about with this I came up with an idea for an outro/different section, which it turns out is in a different time signature. This is what it sounds like:

So far, so bricks and mortar. So I’ve got a couple of sections that are pretty simple and should fit together nicely. I think that next I’ll start to think about the lyrics, and that will inform the speed and vibe of the song.

In the meanwhile, I failed to notice until now that Sweeping the Nation featured “Clouds..” in a roundup from a few weeks ago. Stupid me. They also say “In some sort of cosmic japery, it turns out since we decided to feature Martin Austwick who is acoustic pained storyteller The Sound Of The Ladies here that he’s done some filming of others round his house and one of those is Superman Revenge Squad”. Indeed I have. The first installment of The Sound of The Ladies’ Lounge will be out within the next week, with good luck and a fair wind.
