It was an amazing show on Saturday for the hundredth episode of the Answer Me This! Podcast. We arrived bright and early at the Roundhouse to set up and rehearse the show, and I got my first look at the *awesome* venue. It was a perfect cylinder, so standing in the middle and singing yielded some weird acoustic effects…

Fellow musician Racton was there to rehearse with me early on, so by the time The Voice Talent (Josie Long, Matthew Crosby, Tommy Herbert and Alex Thomas) arrived, I was already pretty psyched. The new musical numbers were sounding great and the story of the podcast was really funny.
The rest is history. Josie did some eugenics material to warm up the crowd (always a banker) and Helen, Olly and I ran on in capes to the bombast of classic-era Starship. The crowd were amazing – full of energy and ready to have a good time, it was an absolute pleasure to perform.
The show was chock-full of new music and idents. Alex’s reprise of Wayne the Welsh Weirdo seemed to be a big favourite, and “The story of Martin the Soundman” sounded awesome, if only thanks to Racton’s drumming. We ended on a massive finale with “Questions from the future”, which sounded like some posh people taking the piss out of Lenny Kravitz. But in a good way. The episode is out on Thursday, so you’ll be able to hear it for yourself.
Afterwards, we towelled off (that was a really sweaty gig) and headed to the bar to chat to our friends and fans. I apologize if I seemed a bit distracted, I was a little dazed after a great show and there were loads of people there I hadn’t known were coming! Let me do a little shout out to Ace and Mrs Coggins, Joe and Lynn, Cairn, The Manns (the Menn?), “Auntie” Ann and “Uncle” Roy, Paul, Paul G, Edwo and Kimon, Clare H, Nick – sorry for being so all over the place!

The radiant ball of light in the centre is the lead singer of La Roux
We “sat out” (drank beer) for Dan Black but as predicted I got drunk and danced like a twat for La Roux. We bumped into them later on and complemented them on the set – but because for some technical reason we had la roux crew passes, they must have just thought “Why is the guy who carries my amps telling me I played well?”. They seemed unimpressed. Just as we left the venue we saw their lead singer walking into the Camden Rain with only a hoodie to protect her amazing hairdo. Which was a pathos – filled end to an incredible night. Thanks, everyone who made it possible – cast, crew at the roundhouse, iTunes people and most of all, friends and listeners for making it an amazing show. Come and say hi if you’re at Latitude at the weekend!
